pip install screenagents

The core has zero dependencies. Nothing else gets pulled down.

terminal
$ pip install screenagentsSuccessfully installed screenagents-0.1.0 $ screenagents --versionscreenagents 0.1.0
Python 3.9 or newer. No compiler, no system headers, no build step — the OS tool does the actual work.

Pick a Linux backend

macOS and Windows need nothing installed. On Linux, screenagents uses whichever of these your distro provides — pick a tab.

debian / ubuntu
$ sudo apt update # Wayland (sway, hyprland, gnome-wayland, …)$ sudo apt install grim # X11$ sudo apt install scrot

Anything that can put a PNG on disk will work — those are just the ones screenagents knows by name.

Already done

macOS
# nothing to install — screencapture ships with macOS$ screenagentsscreenshot-20261018-1832-a1b2c3.png # first run prompts for Screen Recording permission:# System Settings > Privacy & Security# > Screen Recording
Windows
> pip install screenagents> screenagentsscreenshot-20261018-1832-a1b2c3.png # PowerShell + System.Drawing are part of Windows;# PowerShell 7+ (pwsh) is preferred when present

Ask it what it found

--doctor prints the facts that decide backend availability, then each backend with a reason if it cannot run. paste this into a bug report if something misbehaves.
